Fishing
Favorite Fishing Spots: My most favorite fishing spot is ____ ______, this is a secret spot that unfortunately will remain a secret. But other spots in which I enjoy fishing are Kahi Point which is located in Nanakuli, in front of the power plant. You will usually find me here in the summer months when the Halalu(baby akule) and 'Oama(baby weke) are running. Another one of my favorite spots is in Makaha, at a beach called I Don't Knows. This beach is not really known by too many people but I'm sure that a lot of body boarders and body surfers know this beach. Other than these spots I fish all over the island, any place that the fish are bitting.
Favorite Fishes
to Catch: My most favorite fish to catch is the papio. The papio is
a very strong fighting fish which will put up a fight all the way till
it is in the net. But I also catch many other types of fishes. Some of
the fishes I commonly catch are o'io which is known as the bone fish this
is also a strong fighting fish which is known for its long runs. I also
catch awaawa which is known as the lady fish this fish fights exactly like
a o'io and is also eaten the same as the o'io, by making chinese fish cake.
Another fish that I am lucky enough to catch is the pualu which is also
known as the palani or the surgeon fish. This fish is a extremely strong
fighting fish which taste very good after being pulehu(grilled) on the
hibatchi. I also catch other fishes but I think that is enough for now.
But the one fish which I have not caught yet and I am still waiting to
catch is the ulua, which is a papio that is over 10 pounds. This fish is
probably the most sought after fish here in the Hawaiian Islands. To the
left is a picture of an ulua, I'm not sure who that is holding the ulua
but boy is he a lucky man.
Best Fishing Trip: My best fishing trip just happened about two weeks ago on October 26, 1996. My family and I decided to fish the night at ____ ______. It was a beautiful night and the full moon was out. The first fish bit at about 9:00pm it put up a great fight, it turned out to be a 6.5 pound awaawa I was having fun. Immediately after the fish was in the cooler one of the 12 foot poles started screeming. By the way the 6.5 pound awaawa was caught on a 6 foot pole. The 12 foot pole was spooled this means that all the line was taken out by the fish. But my dad, who was determined to catch this fish managed to gain line and brough the fish to net. This fish was a 8.25 pound awaawa which barely fit in our cooler. Little did we know we were in store for a lot more fun. By the time the night was over I managed to bring in three more awaawa ranging from 4.5 pounds to 5 pound. And my dad managed to catch one more which was 6 pounds. Talk about good luck and good fun. We ended up letting go three 2 pound awaawa, we felt that we had enough fish and we did not want to get too greedy. But we still managed to go home with 32.5 pounds of awaawa.
