UPDATE: The 2009 Ka`Imi`Ike Summer Program is collaborating with Halau 'Ike O Pu`uloa at LCC in offering Ka`Imi`Ike participants SCI 103 for college credit (May 26 - July 11, 2009). Please contact us ASAP if you are interested.

E welina mai kakou,

Ka `Imi `Ike encourages freshman or sophomore students not already majoring in a geoscience, but interested in learning more about the earth, ocean, and weather sciences to join us for the Ka `Imi `Ike – Explorations in the Geosciences 2009 Summer Program. Ten undergraduate students attending any University of Hawaii system college will participate in hands-on experiences involving GIS/GPS technology, water sampling, vulcanology and meteorology while also preparing you for college and career opportunities.

There is no cost; all boarding and meals are covered PLUS you will receive a stipend for your time. Mentors will share stories on their careers, paths they took to reach their goals, and connect this to how they manage and interact with their environment. This is a great opportunity to explore the geosciences and learn what it can offer as a career!

Eligible applicants should be freshmen or sophomores who are interested in learning more about one of the following disciplines: Environmental Studies; Volcanism; Geochemistry; Geography; Geology; Geophysics; Physical Oceanography, Hydrology or Meteorology. We strongly encourage Native Hawaiian and other U.S. Pacific Islanders to apply. Students who do not have a declared major are especially encouraged and there is no financial need requirement or tuition to pay.

If you need clarification on the application process, please call our office at 956-0403 or email us at kaimiike@hawaii.edu.

Translation -- Acquire skill and make it deep.
Explanation -- If you want to become really good at anything, you‘ve got to study hard and practice long until it gets deep and becomes a part of you.
