Let the day of learning begin!

Aloha mai kakou! A warm welcome to all of my awesome fifth-grade students at Kealakehe Elementary School in Kona, Hawaii. You are now at the Hawaiian Cultural Links web portal for your PowerPoint file and in-class presentation assignment.

What is this web portal for? There are eight links above. Each topic is a link to a website with information about a Hawaiian cultural activity that you experienced on our recent field trip to Honokohau Cultural Center. Choose three topics that interest you and do some research about those topics. The link to Hawaiian Dictionary can help you to spell Hawaiian words if you are not sure. Take notes about what you learn, but not exactly as you see the text on the web sites. Don't forget our recent discussion about copyright laws. Use your Writer's Toolkit Binder to guide you.

PowerPoint File
You will make five slides:
An introduction slide with a title, your name, the semester and year, and your classroom.
One slide for each of the topics you choose. You will have three slides all together. On each slide make three bullets. Each bullet will have one concise sentence about the topic.
One slide for your references. You have used references before and you have a reference guide in your Writer's Toolkit Binder.
Every slide must have a digital photo except for the reference slide. You may only use the digital photos from our field trip that I took with my camera. These photos are already installed on the computers in the lab. Look on your desktop for the folder "Honokohau," double click it to open, then select your photos.

In-class Presentation
You will give a five-minute presentation about your chosen topics. You may take notes on index cards and use them for your presentation but don't read from them.
The due dates are listed below. You have one-month to do the assignment and prepare for the presentation.
I will give you the rubric today and we will go over it together during Hawaiian Studies period. Be creative, have fun and let me know if you have questions.
