HTML 4.01 Specification -- W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is the definitive source of information and reference for HTML. Therefore, there is no doubt that this site contains everything you need to know about HTML 4.01. |

HTML 4 Index -- This is yet another W3C page (hence the four-star rating) that is useful if you want a listing of all the HTML 4.01 tags. |

Yale Style Manual -- A very detailed style guide that covers a wide range of topics. From the philosophy of a site to the multimedia effects, this site talks about many topics and is highly recommended. |

TryIt Editor -- I stumbled across this useful HTML editor what allows you type in HTML code and display the output on the same screen. I found this useful when I wanted to quickly test the output for a piece of HTML. |

Dave Raggett's Introduction to HTML -- This is a good site that uses code with examples. Dave Raggett works for W3C and provides a great deal of knowledge in his tutorial for beginners and advanced users. |

HTML Reference Guide -- Provides attributes, example code and output and also a brief description of the different tags. |

HTML with Style -- A useful reference for tutorials, style guidelines, and various tools available that will help web development. |

HTML 4.0 Elements -- This reference page by WDG (Web Design Group) gives good coding examples, but fails to show what the code looks like in a browser. This site also gives good links to other sites that explain things like attributes at a more detailed level. |

Introduction to HTML -- A beginner's guide to HTML that provides some code samples but no HTML output. Mentions briefly about good style. |

Bare Bones Guide to HTML -- It's name speaks for itself. This site displays the various HTML tags and a brief description if you're lucky. There are no examples of the tags and no explanation about the different attributes associated with each tag. |
