Methods of Fishing

(A male whipping with a medium size pole and reel from
waist high water)
What is
“Whipping”?
Whipping is the constant casting and reeling of an artificial lure or natural bait using a medium to light pole and reel. Whipping may be done from the shoreline or from a boat.
Purpose of “Whipping”?
Whipping is used to attract highly aggressive fish that are attracted to the constantly moving lure or bait. Some of these fish are the Papio (young Jackfish), Moana (Goatfish), and Oio (Bonefish).

“Dunking”

(Four lines being dunked from
shore)
What is “Dunking”?
Dunking is casting out a weighted and baited
fishing line and waiting for a fish to take the hook. Dunking requires an artificial lure or
natural live bait to be attached either to lead weights or bobbers.
Purpose
of Dunking?
Dunking allows a fisher man to monitor
multiple fishing lines at once without having to recast or keep reeling them in
and out. Dunking is a great compliment
to whipping.
“Oama
Fishing”

(A group of
fishermen fishing for Oama)
What is “Oama Fishing”?
Oama Fishing is dunking in a simple hook and sinker fastened to an ultra
light pole and reel into waist high water to attract Oama
fish.
Purpose
of “Oama Fishing”?
Oama Fishing uses an ultra light pole and reel in waist high water and
waiting for the nibble of the Oama fish. Once there is a nibble you pull your pole
upward hooking the fish onto your pole. Oama fishing is done in correlation with the spawning of
the Oama.
