That’s What I’m Talking ‘Bout

Some gamers love to play to win and some don’t mind walking around and talking to elf-master wizards all day. For those who enjoy that feeling of an actual win or loss, the feeling of having accomplished more than obtaining the level 60 Mind-Basher Sword, read on. For those of you who like to walk around imagining yourself as a dwarf named Balthor, you should probably head in a different Direction.

Sports games are not a fad. They have been on the market since game systems were on the market. Even before video games, people used to play things like foosball, a miniature version of soccer. A lot of people enjoy playing sports but do not like getting tired, and sports video games fulfill that desire. There are sports video games in every genre, from Arena Football to the NFL and from street basketball to the NBA. Gamers can even play sports like street soccer and bowling and almost-sports like golf and Texas Hold ‘Em. Massive multiplayer online (MMO) role playing games (RPGs) might let a player be different races or pick up different weapons, but in essence they remain the same. The mold they are built on is something almost every MMO-RPG follows. To believe that the future of gaming lies in choosing whether to be Darth or Luke or a dwarf or a gnome, is to believe in a future without hope. Ever since online gaming came about, with the graphics to support it, people have been playing online sports games. This trend will continue, until one day, when the player just patches his or herself into a virtual world, and just plays the game in their head, sports games will continue to grow and expand, dominating the market for years to come.

Even after all this talk about which is better, a casual gaming fan might be asking, "What is an MMO?"
