Directions to the University

From Honolulu International Airport:
* Join H-1 (Lunalilo Freeway) EASTBOUND from Airport
* Continue on H-1 approx. 7 miles
* Take Exit 24B - University Avenue
* Go NORTH on University Avenue 1 block to the Dole Street intersection and the entrance to the campus.

From Waikiki (e.g., hotels on Kalakaua Ave. or Kuhio Ave.):
* Go NORTH on a side street and turn LEFT (WEST) onto Ala Wai Blvd.
* Continue WEST and turn RIGHT (NORTH) onto McCully St.
* Cross over the Ala Wai Canal, then turn RIGHT (EAST) onto Kapiolani Blvd.
* Travel approx. 0.4 miles then turn LEFT (NORTH) onto University Ave.
* Travel along University Ave. approx. 0.7 miles to the Dole Street intersection and entrance to the campus. From Eastern Oahu:
* Join H-1 WESTBOUND
* Take Exit 24B - University Ave.
* Go NORTH on University Ave. 1 block to the Dole Street intersection and the entrance to the campus.

Parking at University of Hawai'i
Visitor's parking ($3 upon entry) may be found:
* Parking Structure: Turn right on Dole St. and take the next right to Lower Campus.
* Near Sinclair Library: Continue on University Ave. and turn right half a block past Dole St.
* Near Kennedy Theatre: Turn right on Dole St. and travel approximately 0.4 miles (3rd traffic light) and turn left onto East-West Road.

*Note About Parking

Available visitor parking is very scarce around the UH Manoa campus. To better your chances of finding parking in the pay lots, either arrive very early (say, before 7:00am) or try the Parking Structure near the noon hour or in the early afternoon.

Transportation

Listed below is information about various transportation options available to you on O'ahu as well as directions to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa:

Taxis
There is taxi service available outside the baggage claim area at the airport. Taxi fare to the University or Waikiki is about $20-25, excluding baggage charges and the customary tip of 10 to 15 percent. You can also call:

  • City Taxi 524-2121. Shuttle Services
  • Trans Hawaiian Shuttle Service (808) 566-7333: for $8 ($13 round-trip) they will take you from the airport to Waikiki only.
  • Super Shuttle (808) 841-2928: for $9 per person (cheaper for group), they will take you from the airport to UH Manoa; for $6 per person, to Waikiki.
  • Airport Shuttles (808) 623-8855: for $8 per person (two person minimum), they will take you from the airport to UH Manoa or Waikiki.

The Bus

O'ahu's bus system, logically dubbed "TheBUS," offers island-wide service. The cost is $1.50 for adults and $ .75 for elementary through high school students; exact change is appreciated; dollar bills are accepted, but no change is given. People carrying large suitcases or baggage are not allowed on TheBUS. Riders are allowed to transfer to any connecting line as long as it is going in the same general direction. Request a transfer slip from the bus driver when you board the bus.
