Call for Papers Announcement
Far Western Philosophy of Education Society
50th Anniversary Conference
January 16-18, 2003
University of Hawaii
Honolulu, HI
The Far Western Philosophy of Education Society invites you to join us
for its 50th anniversary celebration, January 16-18th, 2003 at the University
of Hawaii, Manoa. The theme of this annual conference is "Philosophy
of Education as Pedagogy, Praxis and Policy." In launching our new
journal "Provocateur": Philosophy of Education as Pedagogy,
Praxis, and Policy, we see this conference as an opportunity to lay forth
the design of an integrated and transdisciplinary approach to philosophical
discourse about local and global problems in education.
We are seeking papers which identify issues, questions, problems, concerns,
etc., that may bring together philosophers, academic scholars & researchers,
public educators, school administrators, state policy makers, professionals,
business people, and community members, to discover new and original knowledge,
imaginative ways of thinking, inventive ways of being, creative modes
of acting, innovative ways of interacting in resourcefully working toward
improving our human condition and quality of life. We seek papers that
discuss intercultural knowledge, global sensitivities, indigenous imperatives,
multiple identities, race/ethnic relations, leadership, personal and professional
aspects of teaching, pedagogy, etc., about ways philosophy of education
may enable us to reveal, recreate, and refocus our understandings about
who we are, what education is all about and what our impact is/can/ought
to be in pre-K-16 and higher education at local, national, and global
levels of classroom/administrative practices and policy-making and, importantly,
in human life-long learning.
The proposal/abstract should
include:
- Important point(s) of your
paper
- Methodology/approach/perspective
- Contribution to education
- Implications for philosophy,
theory, practice, policy issues.
- 1-2 page limit
- For those accepted proposals/abstracts,
a full paper is requested by January 1st. We would like to make
these papers available for distribution to participants prior to the
conference for meaningful discussions.
Deadline for submission of abstracts due October 20th, 2002.
