Jeff Brooks-Harris spent most of his childhood in Midwestern college towns with brief detours to Canada and Australia. He is the middle child of three sons, raised by a research scientist and an educator/social worker. After failing to excel at traditional sports, he discovered scouting and embraced a life-long passion for outdoor recreation. Initial interests in hiking and canoeing eventually led to rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, and sailing.
Jeff received his bachelor's degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He decided to major in psychology after considering both religion and education. His master's degree was awarded by Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Jeff received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Ohio State University in 1990. Since 1994, Jeff has worked as a psychologist at the Counseling and Student Development Center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he has coordinated outreach, practicum training, and internship training. In 2004, he was awarded board certification as a Specialist in Counseling Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.
Over the years, Jeff has taught a variety of graduate classes at the University of Hawaii and Argosy University - Hawaii, including group counseling, psychotherapy integration, psychodynamic theory and therapy, clinical supervision, and cognitive-behavioral theory and therapy. In 2006, he was named Outstanding Teacher of Psychology by the Hawaii Psychological Association.
