Shopping Project #1 - A Better TPS

The Situation:

Harry and Myra have decided that their little grocery store is expanding and needs to modernize a bit. Myra is tired of having to do inventory by hand. Harry is tired of trying to remember all of the prices for the products as he is ringing the customer up. They have a cash register, but it is really old, it does not give them any summarized sales information. They currently have a box that, miraculously, has all of their cash register receipts for the last 10 years. Now they are moving into a bigger space, with larger inventory, and they are considering having more than 1 check out lane. They need a better way of ringing up the customers, and storing and summarizing all of their sales information. They have some money, but remember they are still a mom & pop store, so they can't afford the same type of system as Kmart. Additionally, they also don't have a lot of personnel; use IT to help them!

Your Task:

Your job is to design for them a better Transaction Processing System (TPS). It should include:

• Any computer hardware & software they need to have.
• Any addtional IT systems (cash registers, bar scanners, etc.). If possible, they should integrate with the computer systems.
• The way that you plan to integrate the inventory and the transaction processing.

As always, the presentation should be professional looking and list all of the pros and cons of each system with each quote, and have your recommended solution.
