French Market

Right along Decatur (see map) on the east side of the French Quarter is the French Market.  As someone described it to me, it is similar to the Internatioanl Market in Waikiki.  It's was a nice walk from my hotel.

I took a picture from the back of this statue.  Though I don't know what it symbolizes, it was a beautiful landmark.

Some photos to share of the restaurants along Decatur street.

This street car operates on a route from Canal street near the French Quarters to the bank of the Mississippi River.  I believe the toll is $1.25 each way.  I'd say the Mississippi River is about 100 feet away from the tracks.

A very concise history of New Orleans.

Not much to say but you can find the famous "Ripleys Believe or Not!" within the area.  To the right of the photo, I believe its a standing replica of "Brother Iz."

I discovered a farmers market near the boundaries of the French Market.  There vendors sold Louisiana t-shirts and artifacts.  I had the opportunity to buy an baby alligator head (guess this is where the heads go when alligators are slaughtered for their meats).

The "House of Vodoo" is one of the few voodoo stores in NO.  You can actually purchase a voodoo doll equip with pins and instructions (i.e., to take a piece of hair from the victim!).
