Usability Testing |
NOTE: This is a more formal version of the Usability Testing instructions. A more informal version of the instructions can be found here. Thank-you for agreeing to participate in this experiment. We would like you to help us evaluate the existing ICS Resume Index that stores and displays the resumes for ICS students, faculty and alumni. The Resume Index is a web-based system that can be accessed with a web browser. The browser that you will be using provides basic navigation functions such as Back, Forward, Refresh, Stop, Home and Search. The Resume Index system also provides navigation functions such as links and buttons that can be used in conjunction with the navigation functions of the browser. During this session, you will be asked to perform several tasks using the Resume Index. While you are performing the tasks, we may be timing how well the system helps you to perform these tasks. Therefore, we would like you to work continuously to complete each task, however, you may take time out between tasks if you wish. Before you begin the tasks, we ask you to read each task aloud and to make sure that you understand it. To help us understand why this system is easy or difficult to use, we would like you to “think aloud” while you are doing each task. We would like you to talk about what you are doing and why you are doing it. You should talk about what you expect to happen that perhaps does not when you perform an action. Indicate both the positive (good) and negative (bad) aspects of how you had to perform a task. Remember to keep talking throughout the whole session. The evaluator may remind you to talk aloud, about why you did something or how you feel about some part of the system. This will help us to understand more about the system. Remember that you are helping us to evaluate the Resume Index system, and that we are not evaluating you. Please feel free to say whatever you think about any aspect of the system or the tasks you are asked to perform. This session should last about 30 minutes. Before we begin, do you have any questions?
