Course Description

         This course is an introduction to a historical and artistic development of art and culture in early China, from the Neolithic Period to the end of thirteenth century; it interlaces artistic discussion with social and political changes. This course also examines the changes of ritual practices by focusing on the evolution of bronze design, tomb building, and the rising of landscape paintings, as well as the vast spread of Buddhist influence.
