The four arms of the Society's Cross stand for four Hawaiian virtues – namely; na`auao, pakiko, pono and onipa`a.
Na`auao. Learned, enlightened, intelligent, wise.
Pakiko. Temperate, abstemious, frugal, economical.
Pono. Goodness, uprightness, morality, moral qualities, correct or proper procedure, excellence, wellbeing.
Onipa`a. Fixed, immovable, motionless, steadfast, established, firm, resolute, determined.
