LOCAL LC CLASSIFICATION CALL NUMBERS FOR

HAWAII AND PACIFIC EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

As a general rule UHM will not deviate from standard practice in assigning LC classification call numbers, and does not create local additions to the schedules. For Pacific island schools other than in Hawaii, assign call numbers as instructed in the schedule, arranging first by place and then by institution:
LG961 Individual institutions, Pacific islands, A-Z.
For schools in Hawaii, however, UHM has followed a decades-long local practice to use class number LG961 for Hawaii schools, from primary through college level, arranged by name of school. The decision to continue this practice was reaffirmed in 1998. For Hawaii schools, interpret LG 961 as:
LG961 Individual Hawaii schools, A-Z.
Use the Cutter number ranges for each institution as listed below, and subarrange by Table L12 or L11. (Do not use obsolete ranges or Cutters, shown in gray.) Assign new ranges as needed. NOTE: Call numbers derived from the two different interpretations of LG961 co-exist in the UHM shelflist.
