Accession-style (Format/Sub-Collection and Language) Call Numbers

The following lists terms and usage for “accession-style” call numbers used chiefly for nonprint format titles. In most cases call numbers are formed by the term followed by a number; in some cases leading zeros are inserted. In some cases the number is prefixed with a letter in order to further sort accession call number sequences by collection or other characteristic.

ART For two-dimensional art work (paintings, drawings, posters, sketches, etc.) Use prefixes H, P, or C, for Hawn, Pacc or Charlot.	Top of page
ARTIFACT For realia or other three dimensional objects. Use leading zeros, e.g., ARTIFACT 0001, 0002, etc.	Top of page
CAT SEP [Obsolete; formerly used for serial umbrella records for cat sep series]	Top of page
CD ROM For CD ROM titles in AV/C, Special Collections, or Ref. locations.	Top of page
CHARLOT TAPE Use leading zeros, e.g., CHARLOT TAPE 005, 006, etc.	Top of page
COMPACT DISC For audio CDs and some enhanced CDs in AV/C. Use leading zeros, e.g., COMPACT DISC 0001, 0002, etc.	Top of page
CONTROL FILE For non-cataloged serial titles rejected or to be routed.	Top of page
DISK For computer diskettes (floppies) in Special Collections, or Ref. locations.	Top of page
DVD For DVD titles (video and multimedia works	Top of page
ELECTRONIC FORMAT For Internet titles, chiefly serials, in HMLTN and GovDocs. Term used alone, without accession number	Top of page
FILM For motion picture titles. Use leading zeros., e.g., FILM 0966, 0967, etc. In the past a system of alpha prefixes based on size of reel was used.	Top of page
FILMSTRIP	Top of page
KIT For titles consisting of two or more nonprint formats, packaged or boxed as a unit, in AV/C.	Top of page
MANUSCRIPT For print or holographic items or collections of manuscript items. Use prefixes H , P, C, M, A, S, or W for Hawn, Pacc, Charlot, general manuscripts, University Archives, HSPA, or Hawaii War Record Depository items, respectively. A and W prefixed call numbers are formed according to individual numbering schemes (not accession) and contain colons. Use leading zeros for H, P, C or M call numbers, e.g., MANUSCRIPT H00004, H00005, etc.	Top of page
MEMBERSHIP [Used for internal non-bibliographic records]	Top of page
MICROCARD Term used alone, without accession number (some obsolete exceptions).	Top of page
MICROFICHE User prefixes to indicate emulsion (S, D or V). Ranges of numbers are reserved for serial and newspaper titles. Use leading zeros, e.g., MICROFICHE D00032, D00032, etc.	Top of page
MICROFILM Use prefixes to indicate emulsion (S, D or V). Ranges of numbers are reserved for serial and newspaper titles. Use leading zeros, e.g., MICROFILM S00032, S00032, etc.	Top of page

RAND Use report number following term, e.g., RAND IP-126, RAND JRA-03.	Top of page
REPRINT Uses decimal numbers, e.g., REPRINT 1.04, 1.05, etc., for Pacc; REPRINT 001.01, 001,02, etc. for Hawn. Numbers to the left of the decimal designate “drawer/folder,” and the number to the right of the decimal is the item number within the folder.	Top of page

TAPE REQUEST For cassette tape items held only in preservation copy, with use copy made on demand Use next accession number in regular TAPE numbers, and suffix with letter p, e.g., TAPE REQUEST 771p.	Top of page
UHCARL For electronic resources available on UHCARL but not in PAC. Use UHCARL menu number, e.g., UHCARL [Main menu, no. 3]	Top of page
VIDEO REQUEST For videos held only in preservation copy, with use copy made on demand. Use next accession number in regular VIDEOTAPE numbers, and suffix with letter p, e.g., VIDEO REQUEST 9331p.	Top of page

VIDEOTAPE For monographic videos, use accession numbers, e.g., VIDEOTAPE 8, 9, etc. For serial video titles, use prefix S and leading zeros., e.g., VIDEOTAPE S00032, S00033, etc.	Top of page
