SENIOR HONORS THESES

Special Collections acquires selected papers written by seniors in the Honors Program.  These are called “senior honors theses,” distinct from “Plan B” papers, theses and dissertations.

Beginning September 1, 2007, catalogers should add a standard 500 note to bib records for honors theses, in the following format:

500 __ ‡a Senior honors thesis, [B.A. or B.S.], [discipline], University of Hawaii at Manoa,
[year].

500 __ ‡a Senior honors thesis, [B.A. or B.S.], [discipline and discipline], University of Hawaii at Manoa, [year].

Examples:

500 __ ‡a Senior honors thesis, B.A. with Honors, Sociology, University of Hawaii at Manoa, 2003.

500 __ ‡a Senior honors thesis, B.A. with Honors, American Studies and Political Science, University of Hawaii at Manoa, 2003.

Earlier bib records have a variety of notes, often quoted from the piece. Some have 502 thesis notes. Optional: If you are touching one of these records, revise the note to the new standard wording.

Examples:

“Prepared as senior honors thesis, University of Hawaii.”

"A senior honors thesis presented to the faculty of the Department of Sociology, University of Hawaii, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree, Bachelor of Arts with Honors."

"A senior honors thesis presented to the faculties of the Departments of American Studies and Political Science in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree, Bachelor of Arts with Honors."
