Desk Copies
 
Desk copies are titles which are intended as working tools for various Departments. This could include dictionaries, atlases, Elements of style, or any such reference work that a service point or Department wishes to have permanently available at their workspace.
 
Acquisitions is taking care of processing new Desk copies; if should you discover a Desk copy in your workload, please return it to Acquisitions.
 
Occasionaly, a selector will decide to make an existing use copy a desk copy.
 
If there are other patron-available copies at UHM:
 
Barcode the piece if needed, and link the barcode
Change the Location to OuzAcqDesk in the MFHD
Change the call number in the MFHD to DESK COPY
Add a 591 suppx tag to the MFHD
Suppress the MFHD
Save the MFHD
Change the Location to Z UHM: Desk Copy in the ITEM
Change the Item Type in the ITEM to "Library Use Only No Holds"
Save the ITEM
Labels are available in the Accession Number label box for this purpose
 
If there are no other patron-available copies at UHM:
 
Barcode the piece if needed, and link the barcode
Record the OCLC number on the Excel spreadsheet, as this is considered a title-level withdrawal
Add a 591 suppx tag to the bib record
Suppress the bib record
Save the bib record
Edit the existing MFHD:
Change the call number in the MFHD to DESK COPY
Add a 591 suppx tag to the MFHD
Suppress the MFHD
Save the MFHD
Change the Location to Z UHM: Desk Copy in the ITEM
Change the Item Type in the ITEM to "Library Use Only No Holds"
Save the ITEM
Labels are available in the Accession Number label box for this purpose
