Copy Cataloging
Cartographic Materials (Maps and Atlases)
Accept all full or core level copy cataloging (Encoding Level _ [blank], 4 or I) with Type of Record "e" for both maps and atlases.
Bounce CAPSA⁄CAPSEA materials that do not meet this criteria to Head of CatSS.
Bounce other materials that do not meet this criteria to Mike
CAPSA⁄CAPSEA flat, folded or rolled maps now are sent to the Map Collection (Location code OuzM)
CAPSA⁄CAPSEA atlases, road maps in books, etc. are sent to the Asia Collection (Location code OuzA, OuzAf or OuzAff)

- Retain all housing, boxing, etc. that arrives with the map.
- Affix Avery label with barcode to a prominent place on the container, cover, or recto of the map (in whichever of the above is easiest for the labeling technician to get to) with non-stick tape.
- Default location code for non-Special Collections flat, folded, or rolled maps is OuzM; default Item type is Book.
- Location code for non-Special Collection atlases is determined either by either flag or order information.
- CAPSA⁄CAPSEA atlases go to the Asia
- After cataloging is complete, place maps on shelf marked “Maps for pickup” in CATSS located on the shelving opposite the binding trucks
- After cataloging is complete, place atlases on appropriate labeling truck
Labeling
Labeling technician scans barcode and prints:
- 1 spine label
- 1 pocket label
Labeling technician attaches spine label and pocket label to map or map housing with non-metallic paper clip or non-stick tape. Avery label with barcode stays on item in a prominent place, attached with non-stick tape.
Labeling technician delivers map, barcode, spine label, and pocket label to map technician in UHM Maps Collection
