Current Projects Developing Partner Schools Partner schools share with the University of Hawaii at Manoa the responsibility for preparing teachers. The university shares with public schools of the Hawaii Department of Education (DOE) the responsibility for the improvement of learning and teaching. Partner schools are the crucibles in which teacher education and school improvement come together. They are the critical link between the University and the DOE.
HIEP assists in establishing partnerships and supporting collaborative activities between schools and the preservice and inservice teacher education programs. Currently, HIEP contacts over 90 partner schools on Oahu and outreach programs on the other Hawaiian Islands and in American Samoa.
Building Capacity HIEP brings together university faculty, teachers, administrators and staff from the partner schools to discuss fundamental issues focusing on purposes and change processes in education. Research and inquiry are supported by the partnership with a goal of influencing policy and practice across the state and nation.
Sponsoring Collaborative Activities HIEP sponsors a wide range of educational activities including: 1. Attendance of teachers and faculty at national and regional conferences
