<------Can you guess what animals they are?
They are American Flamingos! They feed by filtering small plants
and animal from muddy shallow water. Swinging from side to side,
they strain water through "combs" in their beaks. They
are the first exhibit you see when you enter the zoo.

You can see many animals integrated together
just as in the wild. These pelicans were in an exhibit with other
herbivorous four-legged animals.----->

<-----Now here's a bird everyone in Hawaii should know.
It's the state goose Nene. Once on the brink of extinction, the
Nene is showing amazing recovery through captive breeding. So if
you see a bird like this, be careful, it's protected by law!

Oh! Incase you're wondering about the loose
peacocks at the zoo...zoo officials think of them as pests!
Believe or not, they are not part of the zoo exhibit. They were
supposedly at the grounds long before the zoo opened. It is their
breeding grounds. As for why they are pests? They steal food from
all the other animals.
