Program Recognition, Honors, and Awards
Since its culmination in 1990, the Hanauma Bay Education
Program has received several awards. These include:
- Hawai`i's Fifteenth Annual First Lady's Outstanding
Volunteer Award (1991), a certificate of recognition for outstanding voluntary
service, presented by Mrs. John D. Waihe`e.
- The U.S. Department of the Interior's Volunteer
Service Award (1992-93), for outstanding commitment to the stewardship
of America's public lands and natural and cultural resources.
- Chevron Conservation Award (1993), a national
award honoring outstanding contributions to the conservation of our nation's
natural resources.
- Take Pride in America Certificate of Recognition
(1993)
- Recipient of the Council of the City &
County of Honolulu Certificate (1993), honoring and commending the Hanauma
Bay Education Program
- Earth Day, Every Day Environmental Award
(1993)
- British Airways Tourism of Tomorrow Award
(1998)
The Nature Preserve's new educational facilities
has received several awards since its grand opening in August 2002.
Volunteers are also honored each spring at an annual
volunteer appreciation party.
