Sea Lions

Two sea lions, a pup and its mother, bask in the afternoon sun, casting a beautiful study of shadow, light and highlights. Its flows and balance in black, white and grays is overshadowed only by its description of nature's innocence and life.

The Byodo-In Buddhist Temple

One of the most beautiful man-made structures on the island, the Byodo-In Temple is surrounded by nature in this shot. Notice the flow of the trees in the foreground, cutting through the sight of the temple in the foreground. Also find the contrasts of reds of the building against the greens of the trees and the water surrounding it. Finally, curves can be found in the building, lakeside, trees and mountains, streaking from left to right.

"Here stands a building
Frozen in its place in time
Between life and death."
-Harada.

Barber's Point Lighthouse

This perspective shot places the Lighthouse at Barber's Point beneath the clear sky and bright full sun, creating a halo effect. Notice the left-right balance, as it mimics the flow of lines.

Green Lilies

Lilies cast, from front to back, a sea of brilliant shades of greens across the canvas, accenting just one of the colors of nature.
