Research Proposal
Please include the following elements:
Abstract
Not more than 300-word summary of problem, methodology, expected contribution.
Objectives
A statement of the research problem. What is the question that you would like to answer? Why is it important and interesting?
Relationship to Existing Literature
Place your planned research in the context of the existing literature. This will require a careful and thorough review of the literature in your area. How will your work contribute to economic knowledge? Include reference to any of your own previous research that may be relevant.
Methodology
Describe the approach you plan to use to accomplish your research objectives. Describe your plans in sufficient detail for us to evaluate the appropriateness of this methodology given your objectives and existing literature, as well as your likelihood of success. This should include a sketch of your anticipated theoretical or empirical modeling approach.
Data and Monetary Needs (if any)
Are there particular data or other needs that you will need to overcome in order to complete this work?
Timeline
Broad anticipated schedule for the research project.
References
Complete citations for papers cited in this proposal.
What if I am further along?
There are a few of you who may be further along with your research paper than the proposal stage described here. In that case, you can submit a draft of your paper instead of the Research Proposal. However, note that a good paper will include most of the elements indicated above.
