Sodexho
Internship Information
Thinking
of applying to the Sodexho Internship? Have a few questions? Well, have
no
fear! Ms. Michelle Pohina, recent FSHN grad and current Sodexho Hawaii
intern is
passing on a wealth of knowledge just for YOU!
- Sodexho
internship powerpoint & talking
points
-A "Complete
Guide to an Internship Application"
-Common Myths about the Sodexho Hawaii internship, from Barbara Woodland,
EdD, RD, LD, National Director, Sodexo Dietetic Internships (see below)
Common
Misconceptions About the Sodexho Hawaii Internship:
1. Only married people who cannot leave the island can apply--not true.
We want
the most qualified people in the internship. You can point out that
2 of the 3 of you
are not married.
2. It is very competitive so don't bother applying--Yes it is very competitive.
All
internships are--over 4,000 applicants for 2,500 or so slots. It is
important to put
your application together carefully and professionally so that you stand
out. I would
strongly recommend that you bring your portfolios to show. They were
all outstanding
examples of what we are looking for.
3. Only people who work for Sodexo are considered--this is not true.
However, because
the Hawaii preceptors make the final selections, they are more likely
to advocate for
someone who they know and who has done a good job for them.
4. You have to have a practicum program with Sodexo before you can apply--this
goes
back to a time when many of the applicants were weak in the clinical
area. I had
designed a practicum for people who needed more clinical experience.
We were even
going to let them count it as the practicum all the UH students have
to do. The concept
was quickly misunderstood. We had just wanted to give people the opportunity
to
improve their chances. We never implemented the program and it is not
required to
apply for the internship. This myth may not be around any more, but
if it is, you can tell
them that the more experience they have the better their chances, but
that they do not
have to complete a formal practicum.
If you can think of any other misconceptions or rumors let me know and
I
will give you ammunition to clear them up! Good luck and have fun!
