COVICO



The Committee for Viable Constitutionalism (COVICO) is a group of distinguished scholars and practitioners from around the world who seek answers to such questions as these:

We have organized three conferences and sponsor an annual panel at the American Political Science Association conferences. A book containing some of our conference papers is: Designs for Democratic Stability: Studies in Viable Constitutionalism, edited by Abdo I. Baaklini and Helen Desfosses (M. E. Sharpe, 1997). COVICO is a purely voluntary activity, and it is not organized to take positions or manage conferences. However, its members are invited to take the initiative to plan, fund, and manage their own conferences with the support and advice of individual members of COVICO, all of whom can be reached through our list.

A recent conference on Constitutional Design 2000 was held at Notre Dame University on December 9-11, 1999. It was organized by the Kellog Institute for International Studies. Many participants have enrolled as members of COVICO-L. Most of the papers delivered at this conference can be found at its Web Site.

We invite you to join our group and participate in its listserv. Documents relevant to our concerns are posted on our home Web Site and we provide Links to related Web sites. A List of members is also available.

If you are doing research on the problems involved in sustaining constitutional democracy and coping with the great challenges of the coming century, please consider joining our group.
