APM (Associazione per i Popoli Minacciati / Association for Threatened Peoples)

was founded in 1970 by Tilman Zuelch. In 1993 it gained consultative status (II) at the UN Economic and Social Council. It has some 8,000 members and branches in Germany, Austria, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Bosnia and Italy.
Alessandro Michelucci chairs the Italian branch which was founded in 1992. It publishes an e-mail bulletin, "La causa dei popoli" (The cause of peoples) and runs a documentation center in Florence. It edited the Italian edition of the German magazine "Pogrom" (1994-5) and a booklet on indigenous peoples (1993). A new book on indigenous peoples will be released in 1997. APM organizes conferences and events on a regular basis. Its Board of Trustees includes: Guy Hraud (Univ. of Pau, France), Michael van Walt van Praag (UNPO), Jean Malaurie (Artic Studies Center/CNRS, Paris), Ellina Helander (Nordic Sami Instituite) and Antonio Melis (Univ. of Siena). The Centre for Documentation and Research (CDR)


of the Office of the United Nations High Commissionerfor Refugees (UNHCR) serves as an information resource and research centre for UNHCR as well as for external users including intergovernmental organizations, governments, non-governmental organizations, research institutes and others. Its information services cover the range of information relating to refugees, including causes giving rise to flight, current information on countries of origin and human rights related reports from a variety of sources, the international and national legal framework, and related policy issues.

In recognition of the variety of issues dealing with durable solutions for refugees and prevention, CDR also collects resources on minorities, conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction, and related developments in international and national law and policy.

In addition, CDR undertakes policy research for UNHCR of a strategic and generic nature for the Office. In support of this research, CDR organizes and participates actively in conferences and workshops on issues of interest to UNHCR. CDR is moreover developing an extensive external research network to ensure closer collaboration between UNHCR and the academic community, to promote and encourage research in the field of refugee studies and related fields.

* State of the World's Refugees: bi-annual publication: in-depth analysis of current refugee problems and related issues from a UNHCR perspective. Available in 8 language editions.j

Bulletin boards on the APC network, include announcements on workshops, courses, publications, events, press releases and short reports by different NGOs and institutions.
