The K. J. Luke Annual Symposium on Asia-Pacific Financial
Markets represents an important outreach program to be initiated by the Office
of the K. J. Luke Chair of International Finance and Banking. The main purpose
of the Symposium Program is to narrow the gap between academic research and
capital market policy formulation by integrating the academic and practitioner
viewpoints on various policy issues relevant to stock/futures exchanges and
market regulatory agencies in the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, the
Symposium Program will strengthen the University of Hawaii’s research thrust
in the Asia-Pacific financial markets.
While the initial focus of the Symposium Program will be the
financial market policy issues, it may expand to include the banking sector
issues.
1. Structure of the
Symposium
A one-day symposium will be organized once a year. This
annual symposium will focus on selected major policy issues identified by the
Board of Governors of the FIMA Research Center. Each year, leading academic researchers will be commissioned to
prepare reports on financial market policy issues for the Symposium. Market
regulators, senior executives of stock/futures exchanges, and academicians at
the Symposium will discuss research findings.
