ICS 331 Mailing List

All students are required to join the course mailing list.

To join, send email to listproc@hawaii.edu, with no subject (and no .signature!), and as contents:

   subscribe ics331-l@hawaii.edu your name
where you should use your actual name (up to 4 words) in place of "your name". Please only send email FROM your hawaii.edu account -- the account from which you send the subscribe request is the account that will be subscribed. I will review the list and remove anyone who is subscribed from outside the hawaii.edu domain or who is not registered for the class.

See here if you need help accessing your email on your hawaii.edu account.

Be sure to read your hawaii.edu email. If you prefer to read your email somewhere else, you may forward your email -- if you wish to do so, please read the instructions provided by ITS. Please note that you can only send email to the mailing list from your hawaii.edu account.

I send email to the mailing list with announcements and such. The mailing list should also be used for class-wide discussion on topics relevant to the course. You should feel free to initiate such discussion and to participate. I do read the mailing list but may not choose to answer questions -- to encourage participation, I encourage you to answer each other's questions, even if you are not sure of the answer (you can note in your email that you are not sure, but this is what you currently think). I will of course answer questions mailed directly to me.

The mailing list should not be used inappropriately. Discussion should be mature and professional, and reasonable limitations on disclosing information should be observed -- for example, it is inappropriate to post one's answers to a homework before the homework is due, or to post copyrighted materials.

Appropriate ways of using the list include posting real questions and any answers you may have to others' questions, and initiating discussion or posting comments about technical subjects that seem relevant to the class.
