My Game Web Site Hall of Shame
This is a listing of web sites that I used to like but I have recently lost all respect for due to certain limitations that they have placed on their web sites. I understand that bandwidth, hard drive space, and other valuable resources can play a part in adding a paid subscription to your site, but I feel that these things are unecessary. FilePlanet - This web site has a lot of files for a lot of video games. They get so many hits that they have created a file downloading queue. You could potentially end up waiting hours just to download a file that is only 10KB. Even more shameful, they introduce a paid subscription plan to "high speed servers" that host the same files.
I feel that what FilePlanet is doing is wrong because they may be putting a price on allowing you to access their hardware, servers, and other Internet resources, but they should keep in mind that they are also putting a price on your access to property that does not belong to them. I say this because I'm sure not every file on their server was put there with the owners permission. An example would be if I create a Game Modification all by myself and distribute it to my friends on my own website, some how my file just may find itself sitting on a FilePlanet server. Do I get any money from paid subscribers downloading my file from FilePlanet? I think not!
If FilePlanet is going to put a price on anything, they should put a price on how much you would like to settle out of court with them for charging people to access your files on their network.IGN - Once upon a time, I believed this web site and organization had a lot of potential, and they still do, but I have lost all respect that I had for them. Recently, I was reading a game review hosted on their web site when I was suddenly locked out half way through and was required to apply to a paid subscription to their web site just so I could read the rest of the review.
Resources that magazines need such as editors, Internet hardware, and paper for physical magazines are legitimate costs that need to be paid. For the love of man, please don't put a half ass review online and charge people to read the entire thing. If your going to charge for it, charge them to read the entire thing or just remind people not to look at your website unless they feel like giving you money.![]()

Microsoft DirectX - A must for the Windows gamer. GL Setup - Not necessary, but it's nice to have just incase you feel like using a different video driver. Shockwave - A must for the Internet Windows gamer.
