Each student will write a 1-2 page review/critique of an article pertaining to an marketing issue that presently is being discussed in class (see schedule). Students will present their Executive Summaries to the class on an assigned day.
A. Oral Presentation Guidelines
- You will have less than five minutes to summarize your article.
- Please practice at least one time before the actual presentation.
- If an appropriate visual aide is available, please present it.
- The purpose is to try and generate some discussion of the topic, so you may receive questions from the audience. As a side note, please feel free to ask the audience questions too.
B. Written Report Guidelines
1. Please write in formal English
Do not write in the first person (e.g., I or we).
Weak: "Below, we have outlined a number of proposals that you should consider."Better: "Below, a number of proposals are outlined that should be considered."
Never use contractions (e.g., can't )
Weak: "A push strategy won't be effective in this case."Better: "A push strategy will not be effective in this case."
Do not leave the reader in suspense.
Weak: "This is not close to the amount of resources needed to accomplish the task."Better: "This budget is not close to the amount of resources needed to accomplish the task."
Too many words
Weak: "The reason for this joint promotion would be to provide another resource to push the product further and to establish a relationship within the pet industry."Better: "Joint promotion provides another resource to push the product further and to establish a relationship within the pet industry."
2. Remember, you are writing a professional business paper. Apply what you have learned, do not copy materials from other sources and take credit for them. It is important for me to see how you apply the concepts and theories. Impress the reader by demonstrating a competence of the theories that we have reviewed for this course.
3. Use double spacing.
4. The report should be stapled together. Also, due to weight and space constraints, please do not put it in a folder.
5. Written Summary Format (see below)
