Exercise One

Exercise Two

Using the New Instructions for Exercise Two:

The new instructions for exercise two are highly recommended. However, if you are using older versions of Powerpoint and Microsoft Word and wish to view the older instructions, you are welcome to do so.

Using the Older Instructions for Exercise Two:

The older instructions for exercise two are presented as PowerPoints with narration. Because the PowerPoints contain audio material, which increases the file size, the presentation has been divided into five files. You'll need to download all five files and play them in sequence.

The files can be downloaded by clicking on each of the links below.

Exercise Three

Using the New Instructions for Exercise Three:

If you wish, you may use the newly-created instructions for Exercise three. I haven't had time to fully proofread them yet but these instructions better reflect changes that have been made to the UH server situation.

Exercise Four

During the regular version of LIS 670 Exercise Four is done during a Web workshop given for LIS 670 students by the LIS Web team. The instructions given in the link below are for HITS students only.

Exercise Five

Using the New Instructions for Exercise Five:

Unfortunately, Microsoft radically changed the look and functionality (in some cases reduced) of PowerPoint awhile back, rendering the previous instructions for exercise 5 unusable for those who have a recent version. If you are using the latest version of PowerPoint I suggest you use the new instructions. I haven't had time to fully proofread them yet but the new instructions should better match what you see on your screen.

If you are using PowerPoint 2003 you should use the earlier instructions, with the caveat that the appropriate address to use when connecting to UHUNIX is uhunix.hawaii.edu.

How can you tell if you are using an older edition of PowerPoint? With (much) older versions of PowerPoint for the pc this is easy.

From the Help menu select About Microsoft Office PowerPoint, as in the image above.

You should see the edition date, as in the image above. If you are using an edition as old as mine (2003) you must use the older instructions.

If you are using a Mac and you find that neither instructions work for your edition of PowerPoint, simply re-create the image shown in the newer instructions for Exercise Five as best as you can using your version of PowerPoint. Be creative! Then save your image in the GIF Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif). Beyond that point the new instructions should work, keeping in mind the differences between Fugu and and SSH Secure File Transfer Client.
