star wars new school

As much as possible, try to perform old-school analysis by utilizing strong evidence incorporation (from your text); additionally play with new-school analysis by potentially conducting external research (especially including personal opinion)

In Henderson's Star Wars: The Magic of Myth, there are several sections dedicated to Campbell's theories on the monomyth, and there are also sections on the external influences that may have motivated George Lucas to conceive of his design and scope of the films. In this assignment, you will use your personal opinion to deeply assess a new-school influence on the film.

I. The Western and Samurai Culture (126-29).(186-89)

II. The Space Age and Science Fiction (134-143)

III. World War II (144-47)

IV. The Crises of the Seventies (148-49)

V. Humanity Versus the Machine (150-57)

VI. The Feminine Hero (158-59)

Focus on the new school section that you are interested the most. Even if you have never watched Star Wars in your life, comment on the visuals in the book for your particular section and rhetorically analyze them, carefully, so at least to comprehend how the VISUAL DESIGN of the films might have been influenced by the new school source. For those of you who are VERY FAMILIAR with the films, identify specific sections of the film and possibly track down direct images of those specific sections, and visually analyze those scenes, identifying the components of those scenes that mesh together with your chapter's new-school influence.

For example, if you claim that the films' costuming are influenced by Asian design culture, show examples and discuss how those are richly influenced by Asian fashion cultures.
