Overview:
This mini assignment is an opportunity to put proper
quoting dynamics into play and to also connect with
someone close to you in your family or in your circle
of friends. Your main job is to practice MLA
in-text quoting (since that takes a long time to
master) and to connect with friends and family by interviewing
them about their favorite hero/heroes.
The trick here is NOT to simply just interview someone
and then copy and paste their transcript onto a piece
of paper. I would like you to interview someone, then
summarize their general thoughts, once and awhile placing
in smooth quote transitions and the actual quotes or
paraphrases from the piece. You may want to refer to
proper quote conventions by looking at the bottom of
my grammar
html or general
quoting website.
--Select a friend or family member to interview;
--Direct the interview around two central questions:
1) Who was your favorite hero growing up? 2) Who is
your favorite hero now?
--Provide some follow-up, if you want, asking your
interview subject to justify the reasons why that hero
is/was so great.
--Document the interview on a transcript, to be stapled
to your 1-2 page writeup.
--Provide a summary and analysis of the interview.
You should try to use at least 3 quotes or paraphrases
from the source text and provide a proper bibliographical
citation such as the following:
Kubota, Davin. Personal interview. 09 Jan. 2012.
--Compile a personal analysis about your interview
subject. Why do you suppose that person felt so strongly
about that hero?
