GUIDELINES FOR WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT
ES 101 001-005/Das Gupta
There are no make ups for the assignment. Assignments handed in by a friend or submitted by e-mail are not accepted.
This assignment will require you to answer the prompts that are listed on the syllabus for each week.
-
Length of the assignment: No more than 2 double-spaced pages. I won't read beyond 2 pages.
-
Format: Typed, double-spaced. If longer than a page, please staple or clip the assignment.
- The assignment must be spell checked and make sure it is free of grammatical errors.
-
Answer all parts of the question.
-
The answer needs to be to-the-point. Do not be overly descriptive. The questions ask you to analyze not describe.
-
Make sure you cover all the readings. Refer to the readings by author. Eg. "Zinn says ...." or "According to Mantsiois, ...."
- Be sure to express yourself in your own words. Inadequate paraphrasing is plagiarizing. If you use a direct quote, cite the author and page number in brackets.
-
You may express your own responses to the readings or what you found interesting. Using first person ("I") is fine.
Grading Criteria
Content:
Questions are answered directly, clearly, and briefly. All parts
of the prompt are answered. (This is the most important criterion)
Coverage: All readings are covered.
Writing: The paper is grammatical and free of spelling errors.
Grading System
2pts= All 3 criteria met
1.7-1.5= Two of the three criteria are met
1= One criterion is met (say, you meet the content requirement but you
focused on one reading and the paper is not grammatical or full of
spelling mistakes)
0= It is possible that the assignment you handed in does not meet any
of the criterion. If you don't hand in an assignment, you
obviously get a zero.
