CSSA-UH Constitution

The Chinese Student and Scholar Association of the University
of Hawai'i (CSSA-UH) is an officially registered independent organization (RIOs)
of Chinese students and scholars from all over the world.
It is non-profit, non-partisan, religion-free, and democratically self-governed.
It serves as a community-based social organization for friendship and mutual
assistance among its members and friends. It encourages its members to
communicate and improve friendship among the peoples of China, America,
and the rest of the world. It works for opening, equality, fairness
and transparency in public life.
- General goals of CSSA-UH
- To provide information and improve communication between
all members, and to encourage volunteerism for serving the community particularly
to those new Chinese students and scholars who are coming to join our community;
- To represent Chinese students and scholars regarding their rights and
interests, and to assist them in expressing their general opinions and wishes
to the public;
- To enrich the life of Chinese students and scholars with academic and
leisure activities both on and off campus, including, but not limited to,
forums, sports, entertainment, cultural exchanges/fairs, and so on.
- Rights and responsibilities
- To elect president of CSSA-UH;
- To be elected as president;
- To serve as officer;
- To voice personal opinions on all events and issues;
- To raise concerns regarding CSSA-UH community affairs;
- To participate in activities related to CSSA-UH interests;
- To vote on CSSA-UH issues when such is considered necessary;
- To volunteer for activities and projects, and to encourage volunteerism;
- Organization
The organization of CSSA-UH will be simple and flexible to
accommodate the busy life on campus. The president is elected annually. Each
serving term is one year, from a summer to the next summer. One particular
person may serve as the president for a maximum of two terms. The president-elect
forms his/her officer group. The officers can be recruited by the president him/herself
or simply people volunteer for the positions. Whenever the president is absent, the
vice-presidents in turn, shall assume president's basic duties. Functional branches
regarding academic and leisure activities will be formed if necessary. Committees for
special issues and for monitoring purposes will be called temporarily according to the situation.
