CSDC services are provided by well-trained professionals in various areas. The center is staffed by licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, post-doctoral level counselors, and testing specialists, as well as pre-doctoral intern and practicum counselors. Furthermore, the center's administration is managed by a receptionist and student assistants.

 

Kathrine Fast, M.A.

Position: Staff Counselor

Education: Doctoral Candidate in Clinical Psychology; M.A. in Clinical Psychology at University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, 2003.

Worked at CSDC since: 2007

Professional Interests: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, stress management and promotion of self-care, grief and bereavement, adjustment to health related conditions, culturally sensitive counseling, women’s issues, LGBT issues, non-traditional students, outreach.

 

Charlene B. Goto

Position: Secretary

Education: A.A. Candidate in Business at Kapi'olani Community College.

Worked at CSDC since: 1988

Personal Statement: "I learned to do quilting in 1984 and enjoyed it immensely. I have taught many students and a few interns and staff who wanted to learn and didn't have time for formal lessons. I really enjoy helping them create something beautiful and lasting."

 

Alan Hawk, M.D.

Position: Psychiatrist

Education: M.D. from Harvard University, 1968.

Professional Interests: Cross-cultural psychology; treatment of depression.

 

James Russell Henrie, Ph.D.

Position: Licensed Psychologist; Coordinator of Clinical Services; Coordinator of Group Counseling Program

Education: Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah, 1985.

Worked at CSDC since: 1989

Professional Interests: Individual, group, and couple/family counseling and psychotherapy. Career and life planning. Integration of whole person health and wellness models, with a variety of change
approaches, including current psychotherapies, traditional healing and helping traditions (e.g., story teller, shaman, midwife, etc.), hypnosis, family systems/strategic interventions, and therapeutic
wilderness experience. Other practical and research interests include training and supervision, group change approaches across cultures, multicultural issues in group therapy, values issues in psychology, integration of personal and professional ethics, sustainable future, ecopsychology, and the psychology of the wilderness.

Personal Statement: "We are extraordinary beings living in an extraordinary world. We can all be really good to each other as we celebrate being alive in our own ways. Besides working with students at UH, I love music (Martin Pahinui, Haunani Apoliona, Stephen Inglis, Judy Mowatt, Jerry Garcia, etc.), backpacking the wild places of the islands and surfing Paumalu."

Sean Kitaoka, Ph.D.

Judy Lee, Ph.D.

Professional Interests: The practice and promotion of evidence-based psychotherapies for depressive and anxiety disorders; clinical and prevention outcome research; skills training for effective self-management and self-care; community based delivery of evidence-based interventions that are socio-culturally sensitive.

 

Thomas Morelli, M.D.

Position: Psychiatrist

Professional Interests: Family therapy, posttraumatic stress disorder, and Zen training.

Allyson M. Tanouye, Ph.D.

Joan Ukishima, M.Ed.

Position: Test Program Coordinator

Professional Interests: Career and psychological testing, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Testing and Type Dynamics, and counseling and multicultural diversity in our local culture.

Jason K. Yoshino, M.A.

Professional Interests:
Providing individual, couple, and family counseling/psychotherapy via assimilative integration with a humanistic foundation.  Other areas of interest include crisis work, pervasive developmental disorders, psychological assessments and evaluations while simultaneously being mindful about multicultural values and perspectives about each individual.
