The Counseling and Student Development Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa offers Advanced Assessment Practicum and Diagnostic Assessment Practicum training to graduate students in psychology or related fields. The Advanced and Diagnostic Assessment Practicum are half-time (20 hours / week) placements that emphasize five major concentrations:

  • Structured personality assessment
  • Neuropsychological assessment of learning disabilities
  • Assessment in psychological treatment planning
  • Psychological test feedback to clients
  • Psychological assessment report writing

The CSDC Advanced and Diagnostic Assessment Practicum follow a practititioner-scholar model of training emphasizing practical experience supported by one-on-one and group-based clinical supervision and training seminars. Students will be taught and are expected to demonstrate knowledge, awareness, and skills related to the above five practicum foci to supplement treatment provided by the CSDC psychologists and psychiatrists. Trainees are not expected to provide psychological treatment. Professional psychological assessment ethics and conduct will also be taught and integrated into the curriculum.

The Advanced and the Diagnostic Assessment Practicum are nine-month placements across the UHM academic year. Trainees will be expected to provide 200 hours of direct service to UH students and be on site for 600 total hours. Twenty direct hours per week must be scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Two weeks of orientation will occur in August and the practicum will end in May or when the 200-/600-hour commitment is completed.

Application deadline:  April 1, 2013
