UH Tobacco Policy Needs Assesment ReportIn preparation for the tobacco product policy, two surveys were conducted with University of Hawaii at Manoa employees. The survey results are provided in two separate reports. The first survey was conducted with 289 randomly selected faculty and clerical employees at Manoa campus. The second survey was conducted with 137 custodial, maintenance and grounds service employees at Manoa campus. The survey results demonstrate that critical needs for a stronger tobacco product policy to protect health of UH community. One of the key findings of the survey was that exposure to second hand smoke is extremely prevalent among the employees surveyed. A large majority of employees, including a sizable portion of current smokers, reported that they were bothered about being exposed to second hand smoke at work. Moreover, 28% of faculty and clerical employees and 40% of custodial, maintenance and grounds service employees reported that they have health problems affected by exposure to second hand smoke. A large majority of
the current smokers (68% of faculty and clerical employees smokers, and
79% of custodial, maintenance and grounds service employees smokers) reported
that they are interested in quitting smoking. Download and view the
