1. The "promote" and "demote" buttons
1. The "promote" and
"demote" buttons
are used to increase and
decrease the priority of the bullets in a text box.
2. To demonstrate, insert text in the text box of a PowerPoint® slide and press return. Repeat this procedure until you have three bulleted lines.
3. Click on the second bulleted item with the demote arrow. Only the demote arrow will be clickable because you can only promote a line if you have first demoted it. Click twice on the third bulleted item with the demote arrow. The following results is shown on the graphic below. Notice that the bullet character changes as well as the text size and position relative to the left margin.
4. If you now click on the promote button the bulleted items will move back to the left margin. Your cursor must be on line of text you wish to demote or promote for it to move.
