Iao Stream Ecosystem and the Hawai`i Nature Center
Walk an easy one-mile loop to explore the freshwater ecosystem of Iao Stream. Watch endemic shrimp and gobies (`o`opu) dart about in pools and waterfalls. Tour the interactive natural history museum and learn about the ecology of this special
place.

Kipahulu Taro Patch Tour

Join a Native Hawaiian guide from the Kipahulu `Ohana in the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park to experience the inspiring beauty of Kapahu Living Farm, where traditional wetland lo`i terraces (taro patches) have been restored to active production with taro and other Polynesian introduced plants. On the way to Kipahulu, enjoy the spectacular 50-mile to Hana, which weaves along the coastline through dense jungles, across picturesque valleys and streams, and past isolated villages. Pacific Disaster Center & Maui High Performance Computing Center
The Pacific Disaster Center invites you to visit our facility, hold a discussion with scientists, and witness a demonstration of the benefits of the Information Age. The Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) is part of the East-West Center and is one of Maui’s high technology information providers, located in the Maui Research and Technology Center, in Kihei, Maui. You will learn about how PDC has been involved in technical and expert consultation, as well as ongoing training and support to Hawai‘i, other Pacific Islands, Asia, and the Indian Ocean region. PDC has assisted with disaster management projects in Hawai‘i, American Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Niue, Palau, Marshall Islands, and the Philippines. Over the past two years, The Center has also provided training to managers and decision makers from every Pacific Island nation and state. PDC has also contributed to the formulation of a Small Islands Developing States policy on disaster risk reduction for the next decade that is currently being promoted by the United Nations.

Malama `aina (Environmental)
Four-Mile Haleakala Volcano Hike
Surrounded by high elevation silence, we walk through the clouds into one of Maui's natural wonders -- Haleakala Crater. At 8,000 ft. we hike two miles through an alpine scrub forest of endemic plants. Next, we hike 1.75 miles from the 10,000-foot summit into the huge depression famous for its panorama of giant cinder cones. Finally we explore a temperate cloud forest at 7,000 ft. to visit Maui's endemic birds. The guide will provide a fascinating narrative on the natural and cultural history of Haleakala National Park and the island of Maui.

East Maui Waterfalls & Rainforest Hike
This moderate hiking tour enters a spectacular valley on the north side of East Maui, half-way to Hana. Hike along a private, well-maintained trail carved out of the cliffs to 30- and 40-foot waterfalls where you may swim. Hike through dense forests and a beautiful arboretum set high on a ridge above the valley. The guide will provide a fascinating narrative on the natural and cultural history of Maui.

Introduction to REEF (Reef Environmental Education Foundation) Coral Reef Assessment Protocol, Fish Identification & Ecology Workshop

Learn to identify common reef fishes of Hawai`i and conduct a REEF survey. This protocol is easy and it helps promote stewardship of marine resources. Reference materials will be available or purchase a REEF kit (with fish identification card and underwater slate) for $15.

Snorkel at Honolua Bay Marine Life Conservation District
Honolua Bay is one of only two no-take zones on the island of Maui and it is only calm enough to snorkel in the summer. Join marine biologist/author Ann Fielding for a look at the great variety of Hawaiian fishes and corals, some found nowhere else in the world!

Discover Molokini Snorkel or Scuba Dive aboard the Trilogy

Scuba Diving in South Maui and/or Molokini with Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures
Ed started diving professionally in Hawai`i in 1971 and is a well-known underwater photographer. There is a natural history and marine animal talk before and after each of the two dives. The emphasis is on service and safety, with no more that six divers per divemaster. Their 30-foot aluminum dive boats carry 12 divers each and offer shade and a freshwater rinse. The boats are underwater photographer friendly.

Learn to Surf - The Sport of Hawaiian Ali`i
Enjoy the crystal clear waters and light breaking waves that are perfect for learning to surf. The local instructors with Rivers to the Sea all have at least 25 years experience in these waters. They will teach you ocean safety and offer valuable tips on how to read the nearshore waters. The focus is on fun. Participants must be good swimmers.

Learn to Windsurf

Maui is one of the most popular windsurfing areas in the world due to the constant northeast tradewinds that funnel through the island. Local experts will help beginners discover the correct methods for enjoying this exciting sport or will explain to experienced sailors how to get the best out of their Maui experience. All equipment provided. Participants must be strong swimmers.
