10/9
A list, maybe that will work.
1. Started classes again. Well, class. Lang. Arts Meths (meeting
Wednesday eves at the usual 5.30-10.40 block) has already met, but
Integrated Curric starts Saturday (meeting at the usual Saturday block,
8 a.m.-noon.) I just spent $135 for three paperback textbooks. I'm
trying to find an ethical loophole here that will allow me to photocopy
one in its entirety so I can return it, but I haven't quite worked out a
cost-effective way to do it.
2. My peahen Steve is here for a couple of weeks. She hasn't been here
since, oh what was the year "A Perfect Storm" was playing in theaters?
That's how I remember when she was here because that's all we had time for
-- I tagged along on movie night with her and her brothers.
3. My parents are in Boston and so B, who considers himself to be my mom's
dog, is being the royalest barky pain ever.
4. Having an extremely mini reunion tonight, which involves cooking up
some vegetarian fare, which you'd think I'd be okay at considering I had
to fend for myself for six veggie-ful weeks earlier this year, but cooking
for a crowd is something different. Well, like I said it's an extremely
mini affair, but still. Eugene's Brother said he'd be by to grill some
steaks because he's not too keen on whole grains.
5. Today begins Educator's Weekend at Waldenbooks. I have a short list:
Songbook by Nick Hornby, Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman
(since the last copy I had I seem to have donated to somebody's
classroom), and some herby-gardeny book for E's B. The list would be much
longer (at a 25 percent discount my normal list would be about three feet
long) but I just bought those darned textbooks ... :(
6. Going shopping now, Costco and Chinatown. The coolest thing about
P. Steve being here is that we can call each other up and fall asleep on
the phone for all we care. That and mundane errands and sitting around
watching Buffy. (Score one convert for me.) And shopping for the
silliest things (I BOUGHT kangaROOS LAST WEEKEND! the very kind I had when
I was about seven, the kind with bus money pockets. This was no small
thrill.) Oh well, off to gather 3-pound bags of mixed greens and bricks of
feta cheese. E's B also asked for philo, which has endless potential in
any situation, hopefully including this one.
