4/12
Today I met the last of my three new classes. (On Saturday classes: "Never again is what I swore the time before.") Two surprises so far: math won't be the hardest class; art won't be the easiest. My art prof is pretty mean, in fact. Never judge an old lady by her cardigan. Math was actually fun on Monday, a sharp contrast from 645 (the first half, where remember? I left the first day on the verge of tears.) 646 will be duck soup, but then after that hell so would performing a root canal on myself or digging a hole to China. The other class, children's lit, will be as much work as 645 but way, way more fun. We have to read 50 books, make detailed book cards for each one, write papers, prepare book talks and readings, etc. The professor (also an English teacher at Farrington) is really cool. Very eccentric. I'm so glad my schedule turned out the way it did.
Met Connie and Benny for bridal expo at the convention center today. The blaisdell one was way better, partly because it was bigger and the fashion show was better, and partly because nobody was actually getting married then. We just went for fun. Now it's all business, they've got everything booked except three minor things like the DJ and the balloons or whatever (and big deal, because the wedding's next summer.)
Another birthday tonight. The only good thing about One Kalakaua parties is that we don't have Happy Day parties anymore. Now that everyone's grown out of Chuck E. Cheese (damn) and I guess somebody got mad at the people at Sun Tak and/or Happy Day, the clan is always renting out the function room/hall of my aunty's senior living condo. No variety, but that's OK, it's kind of a second home where nobody has to clean house. Tonight's games were play-do charades and memorize 60 small items stuffed into a paper bag, which sounds dull but believe me is different and exciting to this bingo and paper-pencil game family.
Tomorrow: bai san (yagh -- early in the morning.) And ... study? And ... sleep? Hm.
Oh yeah! I lost track of days a long time ago, but Easter is next week! Even though I'm going straight out for prime rib (my favorite form of red meat) I think I'll probably make a concerted effort to eat more vegetables and less meat in general after this thing is over. Hey, today at the bridal expo C & B guessed their body fat percentage correctly and signed me up for a 1-month membership at 24 hour fitness. Yay, I think.
