stumbled upon rabbit man(!) while looking for arthur miller. was weird -- like finding the long-lost pilot of your long-lost mothership. now pilot wears an aloha shirt but still calls his ex-disciples by their dorky handles which we're embarrassed we still remember. and when did he get back from japan? see, he deserted us -- shook the noodles down the drain, left the dashi out to dry, got a life. the nerve. haha.

hrm -- so saimin did exist. it wasn't just a weird dream.

essay: what saimin meant to me. by zebra, #36.

just kidding, i don't miss it that much. but RM does deserve a lifetime achievement award for what he gave us.

okay, so, last night at home depot i saw him again. (i am NOT a stalker.) E's B and his home depot girlfriend betty or whatever, were trying to convince me that his front lawn needs more gardenia plants. i looked up and there was the rabbit. "training," he explained, after we exchanged hi, what the hell are you doing standing in front of me for the second time in three days smiles.

ok it wasn't that big a deal, i just thought it was weird. maybe next time i run into him we can actually chat.

i got a reading lamp. not quite what i wanted, but it was in stock unlike all their other small reading lights. just getting tired of reading upside down in bed in order to catch the fluorescent desk light. just one thing: the base of the lamp is too big for the surface it's sitting on, which happens to be a ledge right above my head. as long as no one thumps the wall and as long as i don't pull at the cord in my sleep i should escape injury.

the substance of my summer vacation thus far: hanging out at home depot and discussing the risks of reading myself into a coma

i'm not complaining. yet. it borders on criminal that i still get to enjoy a summer vacation at all. i should be locked away with books or children or waiting on snotty customers on their summer vacations. instead, i'm reading, writing and taking afternoon naps that last till dinner. cooking. taking a class just for kicks.

and i tracked down peahen! i talked to her and noe both in the same afternoon, which hasn't happened since high school. she's fine. she quit wrestling because she was tired of getting injured. she's still working at the clinic, and she has a new puppy (so if you're counting, she now has two dogs, kytzyl the aging cat, and three rats.) her boyfriend, who has the same name as Eugene's Brother, seems very nice. he talked to me till she parked the car (no talking and driving in WA), which is how i've been describing him to those who have asked (i.e. my mom, connie, E's B -- ok, E's B didn't ask) because i don't know why, it just seemed like such a nice thing. we've never met, but he had no problem talking to me on the phone while she got home and parked the car. nice.

got my hair cut at PB a couple of weeks ago. the random stylist i ended up with (as i only ever cut my hair on the spur of the moment) happened to be a '95 MHS grad. we were talking about friends and school and keeping in touch with friends from school and he said "you know, you get over it."

you do?

i miss peahen. i miss noe too, but differently. she's right here on the island but we rarely talk or see each other. i think if peahen were here we'd hang out a lot more. but with noe it's different. i love her, but she's harder to pin down, for one thing. she's not pin-downable. nonpinnable-down. she kind of floats, like an idea. sometimes she streams like a bullet train. she's always moving.

of all of us who stayed or returned here, i see connie most. she's constant. in a lot of ways. peahen was brave enough to leave forever (e.g. no plans to move back). noe, we just don't know where she'll be tomorrow if she's even still here today. kief -- last i saw her was at that odd barbecue of ours where we had to pick stuff out of the trash and practically build our own stove. ollie -- allegedly married the swede, but where are they now? soon-yi -- . and katie graduated from usc and has fantastical job with boeing. (exciting but scary that our generation is now building and flying the planes.)

brother has been bothering me for two days to get the hell out of his chair so i guess i will now.
