Kualoa Ranch Service Learning
Saturday, October 15, 2011
9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
The Plan:
- Students will make prior arrangements to car pool (see
Laulima Discussions to post whether you can give or need a
ride).
- Take H-1 heading west, exit at Pali
Hwy off ramp.
- Take a right on
Nuʻuanu Pali Drive and follow that winding road until it leads back
to the Pali Hwy, then take a right.
- Just before the tunnels youÕll see a
sign indicating the Pali Lookout (site of KamehamehaÕs famous Battle of
NuÕuanu). If you have time, you have the option of taking that right (so
donÕt go through the tunnel just yet) to visit the Pali Lookout. I recommend that you leave the Pali Lookout no later than 8:15 a.m. to allow 45 minutes to drive to Kualoa Ranch.
- Get back on Pali Hwy heading toward
Kailua. Take a left at
Kamehameha Hwy (first light & intersection coming off Pali Hwy), so
youÕre heading toward Kaneohe.
- Take a left at Likelike Hwy (youÕll
see Burger King on your left at that intersection), then make a right at
the second light to get on Kahekili Hwy. Continue on Kahekili Hwy, it will turn into Kamehameha
Hwy. Stay on that road for
about 10 miles until you get to Kualoa Ranch.
- An alternate route that takes about 5
minutes longer would be to stay on Kamehameha Hwy. After you pass Windward Mall (on
your left), and King Intermediate School (on your right) you should see HeÕeia
State Park, which includes the fishpond (on your right).
- We will meet at the Kualoa Ranch Visitor Center
at 9:00 a.m. where all participants will sign a
waiver form.
- you may use the restroom at the visitor
center before we board their transportation into Ka'a'awa Valley
- wear long pants, shoes are required, and mosquito repellant is recommended
- you may also want to wear a hat & use
sunscreen
- if you have some, please bring garden gloves and/or tools for yard work
- don't forget a water bottle
- Due to limited space, please RSVP by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday (10/12), and do let me know if you're bringing a friend or family member (sorry, no keiki; for safety reasons this activity is for adults only).
