Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum was founded in Honolulu in 1889, named for the Hawaiian princess who was the great granddaughter of Kamehameha I. Throughout its history, the museum's commitment has been the gathering and the dissemination of information on Hawaii and the Pacific. Research and documentation continues in both areas of cultural and natural history within the Pacific. Bishop Museum was recently designated the State Museum for Cultural and Natural History.

The Bishop Museum is known for it's Superb Compilation of Hawaiian Artifacts and is widely loved by school children because of their seasonal Exhibitions of intersting topics. The Bishop Museums Current Exhibitions are:
Now through March 8, 1999 enter a world unlike you've seen, smelled touched, tasted - or heard of! What's the world like for animals who see for miles...detect invisible rays...hear an insect's footsteps...find their way home from thousands of miles away? Come sense it for yourself! Now through February 28, 1999 showcases Interactive displays, Photographs, artifacts, videos, and demonstrations share the stories of family and community, celebrations, soldiers in World War II and today's Filipino American heroes. View family collections, listen to taped anecdotes, and even visit a plantation home of a Filipino sakada. A special Kid's Corner offers fun activities for keiki with crafts, toys, dress-up costumes and games.
