Since December, the University of Hawaii Chi Alpha chapter has been corporately sponsoring an Ethiopian child through Compassion International. Her name is Tigist Tesfaye (or, as we like to call her, "Tigger").
Tigist lives with her mother. At home her duties include running errands and cleaning. Her mother is sometimes employed. There are 3 children in their home. Jumping rope is Tigist's favorite activity. In primary school her performance is below average and she also regularly attends Sunday school.
Tigger recently sent us a letter expressing her love. It is included below. She has truly been a blessing to all of us. We often forget that there are many children around the world who don't share the comforts we take for granted. If you are part of a college Christian organization, we encourage you to take an active role in improving the life of a child. The cost is very low (especially when you divide the cost among several people like we have done) and the rewards are very high. Contact Compassion International for details.
Translation of letter from Tigist Tesfaye: Dear Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship Tigist is very happy & thanked you for your willingness to help her. She lives with her mother. She never knew her father because they divorced before 7 years. He has wife & children in another place so he didn't help her. Her mother feed her children from the money that she earns by cleaning offices. She is a grade 1 student. She learned in her Sunday school class how God created heaven & earth. She is eager to hear from you & if it is possible, please send your photographs. She loves you so much. Bye!
