Throughout the week our Chi Alpha makes sure to touch upon all aspects of Chi Alpha's national mission statement. (See "Mission Statement" page for more details.)
Every Friday meeting begins with the worship of our Lord. Whether we
sing songs which may or may not be accompanied by an instrument, read
passages from the Scriptures, or simply convey a message from God, worship
serves to put us in the correct mindset to approach the holy throne.
Our best weapon to fight the evil forces of this world is prayer. This is
why, every weekday morning before school, we have prayer meetings open and
entirely optional to everyone. Already we have seen marvelous things
happen, in XA and in our personal lives, through a staunch committment to
prayer.
Who says Chirstians don't have fun?! Fellowship is most important because
it brings us together as a family. It unites and edifies. Sometimes
fellowship means scheduling special events, other times, like in this
picture, it means just hanging out and "talking story" to find out how
people's lives are going.
Maturity in Christ is best accomplished through the individualized
attention, training, and accountabilitity offered by a mature and
qualified discipler. In our small groups, Chi Alpha members feel they can
be much more open than in the larger group, and follow-up is provided for
new members. The informal small group setting is where spiritual growth
is encouraged and nurtured and where Christians can develop their gifts
and callings. In our Chi Alpha, we have separate small groups for men and
for women. Gender-specific groups allow for more intimacy and
confidentiality about issues of a more personal nature.
Jesus commanded us to go out into the world and spread His good news. For
this reason we also do evangelism on our campus. Every Monday we have a
booktable in the Campus Center. However, the booktable is less of a
library than it is a tool for witness. Although we have several tracts
and books and bibles, our primary goal is to stir interest among the
students of the university in who God is and what He is offering. At
times we post a critical question on a bulletin board and ask passerbys
about their thoughts and beliefs. While salvation is left to the Spirit,
we want to be able to, at least, create a dialogue among the academic
community about the Creator of the Universe.
