Kelly Hildebrand, pastor of Hope Chapel Honolulu, will be giving a series of talks on "Knowing Why we Believe." It will be an intensive study of Christian apologetics which will train us in how to apologize for --- um... I mean defend --- our faith against tough allegations, and how to answer tough questions. This is for Christians and non-Christians alike, so be thinking of someone who will benefit from these discussions. THAT WARM FUZZY FEELING ----------------------- This Friday Night (9/15), at 9:00 pm, at the Kauai Hau Church, Grace Bible is sponsoring a concert by the Warm Fuzzy Kookamongas, a local Christian rock/alternative band. We will probably go after bible study. So, bring your friends and get ready for a musical treat that will tear the house down (that's another figurative expression). LIFTING OUR VOICES IN UNITY, THE SEQUEL --------------------------------------- Last semester we had an event where several Christian groups on campus got together for a couple of hours of praise and worship as one body. It went so well, that we're doing it again! The evil spirits will be cringing this Saturday (9/16) at 7:00 pm in the Athletic Complex Classrooms 1 and 2. For those who remember, it's the same place as last semester, only this time we don't have to compete with a volleyball game. Please come on down and invite your Christian buddies from other groups to join in fellowship and worship. C U @ D POLE ------------ Otherwise known as "See you at the Pole," C U @ D Pole is a monthly event where the various Christian groups on campus come together to pray for the campus or anything else that is on their hearts. Next Wednesday (9/20) at 7:15 am, we will be gathering around the flagpole outside Bachman Hall (at the front of campus) and pray until all needs are addressed, or until Campus Security breaks us up. Note that this will be instead of the usual Wednesday morning prayer meeting for that day. However, the following week, the 7:30 am Wednesday morning prayer meetings in the East-West Japanese Garden will resume. FUN AT RODDY'S -------------- Rod has graciously placed his apartment complex at our disposal for a Chi Alpha Fun Night on Saturday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm. Pick up will be at 6:30 pm between Wainani F and I buildings. Remember to bring your rackets and your swimsuits for a night of pool swimming, jacuzzi vegging, and doubles tennis playing. REMEMBER SALT? -------------- Just a reminder of a forgotton topic. We are still collecting for those interested in going to the XA SALT conference in California in late December. The cost for the five-day conference is $125 plus airfare and transportation. Start saving now or give your money to Craig and he'll save it for you in the XA account. The money is fully refundable and can be transferred to someone else if you can't make it, but would like to help someone else. ANOTHER INTENSIVE STUDY ----------------------- For those interested, Pastor Kelly, the guy who'll be teaching for the next four Fridays, is also teaching another study on campus. Thursday afternoons at 3:00 pm in Hemenway 216, Kelly is teaching a series on the enigmatic book of Revelations. If you have a couple hours to spare, stop by. SMALL GROUP MEETING TIMES ------------------------- If you're not hooked up with a small group yet, get into one. These are the times I have listed, although I'm open to corrections: Men: Mondays 5:00 pm in Hemenway 216 facilitated by yours truly Thursdays 5:00 pm facilitated by Craig Pick-up at 4:30 pm between Wainani I and F Women: Tuesdays 7:00 pm facilitated by Gaby and Amy Pick-up at 6:30 pm between Wainani I and F SEEKING ARTICLES NOW -------------------- If you remember from the last issue, I was desperately calling for your creativity in writing articles to include in this newsletter in order to improve it. I got one, a very good one, which follows these announcements, but I would like to see more. Please, if you have a word of inspiration, a funny story, an opinion, anything to lift the body up, please submit it to me. The next issue of the Brotherly will come out on Wednesday, September 27 (or round about then). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ THE ADOPTED CHILD I'm reminded of a true story of a couple who adopted a baby girl. As she grew up, her parents ensured her of their love towards her. They told her that they had chosen her. But the day came when she wanted to know who her real birth mother was, and it was a trying time for the family. She felt abandoned and unwanted. A day came when her adopting mother and she got into a fight. They parted; the mother left saying, "Oh, help me God" and her adopted daughter dashing to her room, slamming the door, and screaming, "Why don't you give me back then!." The mother, in a painful tone responded to this. "We give our pets away; we don't give our loved ones away." Something touched the heart of the girl. She came running, crying to her mom and gave her a big warm hug. I think, sometimes, some of us have slammed the door on God. We forget that He has chosen us, and is always everloving no matter how terrible our acts are. He says you don't have to search for the real thing because He is the real thing. You can't find love in any other place. God says, "Let me heal you." God says, "Come to me." And we say, "But God, you don't know what I'm going through." Well, let Him know. If you're lonely, tell Him. If you feel unwanted and unloved, tell your Dad and find peace in Him. He alone can satisfy your needs; His grace is sufficient for us! Go to Him and be blessed! ---AN ANONYMOUS CHI ALPHAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A WORD FROM THE CLAIRESTER For those of you who don't know, a dear friend of ours who was involved with Chi Alpha last semester, Claire Carter, is spending the year at West Chester University, Pennsylvania, in the National Student Exchange Program.
