This is the second issue in a row where I didn't get articles from anyone. I warned everyone that another edition of the Brotherly was coming out and I even chose to send this out late thinking maybe, just maybe someone might want to submit something at the last minute. Who was I fooling? I had to throw in something that was sent to me by a friend so as to avoid another bland newsletter this time around. Do I have to beg? Okay, I'll beg. Could you please send me artices? Pretty please? PLEASE?! I want this thing to be so much more than an announcement post. Anyone can send virtually anything and I'll accept it if it is edifying in any way. Even if it's something simple like: "God gave me a message today that he is awesome. He comforted me once again. Praise him!" I hope you're not thinking "But it's funnier when we don't send articles because he comes up with creative ways to ask for them all the time." This is becoming less and less funny. This newsletter can be, ought to be, something special. I can't make myself more clear, so let's go on. --------------- | ANNOUNCEMENTS | --------------- WOODSTOCK '96 ------------- This is the name the Baptist Student Union chose for their upcoming praise night under the stars. This Friday (4/19), we will not be having a normal Chi Alpha meeting. Instead, we will be at the Baptist Student Union parking lot listening to some good music. Featured among the bands is the debut of "Frolic Like a Heifer," a good up-and-coming group with a strange taste in names but a good taste in songs. BSU is situated on the corner of University Avenue and Vancouver Drive, across the street from the BusAd building. The music starts at 6:30 pm. After the concert we will be going down to Bubbies for some ice cream, and to talk with the heifers themselves. (So appropriate --- cows and ice cream). Bring your chairs and bring your ears this Friday. MEN'S NIGHT/ WOMEN'S NIGHT -------------------------- We did this before and we're trying it again. After the general meeting on Friday, April 26 (which will feature a guest speaker), the guys and gals will split up for fun activities to be disclosed later. Joel will arrange the activity for the men and Cheryl will arrange things for the women. EAT OUT THE END OF THE SEMESTER ------------------------------- On Friday, May 3rd, instead of our normal Chi Alpha meeting, we will be closing out the semester in traditional style with our semi-annual end-of-the-semester banquet. This has become a regular function and serves as a good time for us to thank each other, wish farewell to the grads, and enjoy one another's company. Amy is checking into a few places and she will probably be collecting your opinions this Friday. We're trying to get a place that is fancy but cheap (if such a place exists). Just keep the date in mind. Note: this is not during finals week; it is the Friday before finals, after the close of instruction, which means studying is no excuse to miss out. HELP WANTED -- FRIDAY ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR -------------------------------------------- Due to the recent exodus of our coordinators for Friday night activities, we are in dire need of a replacement. We need someone who has a lot of good ideas and knows how to collect people after the meetings (in other words, a lovable dictator). If you feel led in this area, please tell me or Joel or Amy or Cheryl. ______________________________________________________________________________ ---------- | FEATURES | ---------- DEVOS OFF THE WIRE ------------------ "He has shown you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do JUSTLY, to love MERCY, and TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD." We need to remain honest in all we do and to cherish compassionate faithfulness. Commit yourself to live in submission to God. Faith is simpler than it seems. It is a choice rather than an ability. Many of God's promises are so astounding that we are not able to comprehend them, let alone fully 'believe' them. But we can always choose to believe, or to commit to His Word, regardless of the magnitude of the challenge. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. For the Lord your God is bringing you unto a GOOD land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomengrantes, a land of olive oil and honey, a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack NOTHING; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall BLESS the Lord your God for the GOOD land which He has given you. Beware that you DO NOT forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments and His statutes which I command you today." We need to guard against pride in the midst of God's blessings and realize that prosperity often brings arrogance, causing us to forget that GOD is the source of all blessing. Don't forget to give Him THANKS daily for His blessings over your life. ______________________________________________________________________________ Send me articles for next time please?
